How to find us
To reach Villa Francesca from the mainland there are three steps to take:
1. Reach Porto Santo Stefano (Monte Argentario);
2. Embark on one of the ferries to the Giglio Island;
3. Navigate from Giglio Porto to Villa Francesca.
Here we will try to explain the options that are needed to make your trip easier (if you have any further questions please feel free to call us and we will be happy to give you a hand).
1. Reach Porto Santo Stefano
BY PLANE:
If you are traveling by plane, it is advisable to choose a flight arriving at one of the airports in Rome (Ciampino and Fiumicino) or in Pisa, being the closest to Giglio Island.
From there it is possible to continue towards Porto Santo Stefano by car, by train / bus or by taxi.
BY TAXI
If you decide to use the taxi to arrive at Porto Santo Stefano from one of the nearest airports, you must first contact one of the private companies that do that service. Prices vary according to the number of passengers and the type of vehicle used for the transfer.
BY CAR
If traveling with your car, coming north from southern Italy (for example, if you have landed at Rome airport), we recommend taking the A12 and then continuing on Via Aurelia until you reach Orbetello. From there continue on towards Porto Santo Stefano for about 10 km. If you are coming south from north Italy (for example, if you have landed at Pisa airport), we recommend taking the Grosseto ring road, continuing on the Aurelia towards Rome. Turn right at the road sign indicating Albinia (Ferries to Giglio Island), cross Giannella and continue for Porto Santo Stefano.
Here is the Google Maps link below, a great tool to plan your trip by evaluating routes and times of travel:
BY TRAIN AND BUS:
Finally, the last way to get to Porto Santo Stefano and embark on the ferry to the Giglio Island is finally to take the train and then the bus. The railway line to choose from is Pisa-Roma, at the stop of Orbetello-Monte Argentario.
From Orbetello station you can take a bus (the company is called Tiemme Spa), which will take you directly to the embarkation area for ferries to the Giglio Island.
2. How to reach the Island
Since Giglio Island is about 22 km from the mainland, once you have arrived in Porto Santo Stefano it is necessary to embark on a ferry to reach it. The two ferry companies you can use are Maregiglio and Toremar, who run from 6am to 8pm, connecting Porto Santo Stefano and Giglio Porto.
Here are the links of the two shipping companies to see prices and times:
Travel time is about an hour for both companies, and if you want to bring your own car or motorcycle on the island, we strongly recommend booking the ferry in advance, since in high seasons especially car spaces run out very quickly.
For those who prefer to leave the car at Porto Santo Stefano, we recommend parking in one of the private car parks near the boarding point.
3. On arrival on Giglio Island
BY CAR
Giglio Porto is only 2 km from Villa Francesca, so the travel time to reach your destination once you reach the island will be quite fast (about 5 minutes).
Once disembarked from the ferry in Porto you must first take Strada Provinciale (or the only road that connects the three main centers on the island) towards Castello and Campese.
After a few hundred meters uphill, you have to turn right at the Hotel Monticello and start going down towards Arenella, until you see Villa Francesca on the left at the top of a small slope ending with a gate, exactly in front of the Hotel Arenella.
Continuing a few meters further on, on the left you will find a small parking with two parking spaces protected by a roof (reserved only for our guests), where you can easily park your car or cars. We will be there waiting for you and welcoming you with a smile 😊 !
BY BUS
On Giglio there are regular buses that connect the three main villages of the island. Once arrived on Giglio, guests are advised to go to the stop located a few meters from the landing of the ferry and get on the first bus.
Unfortunately there is not a stop very close to Villa Francesca, as the area of he Arenella is a little bit away from the bus route. For those who do not mind a short walk, you can get off at the bus stop at Hotel Monticello and continue on foot (downhill!) For about 10-15 minutes, until you reach Villa Francesca on your left.
BY TAXI
There are four taxis on the island that offer a 1 to 8-seat car service. Prices are fixed and vary depending on the route to be traveled. To book, please call the drivers directly by telephone.
For example, if you want to reach the Arenella da Giglio Porto, the price (last time we checked) is €10 up to 4 people, with each additional person €2.50. Reservations can be made by calling the drivers directly. Some telephone numbers are shown below:
Ansaldo Andrea Cell. +39 340 8732865
Blanco Antonio Cell. +39 347 1941888
Brizzi Ottavio Cell. +39 338 9706950
Pini Adriano Cell. +39 330 731424
CAR RENTAL OR SCOOTER:
If you decide to rent a personal transport vehicle, such as a car or scooter, we recommend that you visit one of the four rental companies. They are all located in Giglio Porto and it is advisable to contact them in advance, to be sure of the availability of the desired vehicle.
In case you want to rent a car to have more freedom, we would advise you to do it on the mainland and from there to take it on the island with the ship, since the number of rental cars available on Isola del Giglio is very small.
